About the role
We are seeking a Production Mechanic/Technician to join our team. This role involves performing maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection, disassembly, reassembly, and overhauling of special-purpose vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with heavy-duty trucks, automotive repairs, and mechanical systems.
Key responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repairs, and modifications to heavy-duty trucks and mobile equipment.
- Follow Acela Truck Company standards to facilitate repairs, assembly, and installation based on production documentation.
- Assess additional repairs beyond specified build orders.
- Disassemble and reassemble major assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components.
- Repair and adjust electrical, suspension, air, and hydraulic systems.
- Remove, clean, reinstall, or replace defective parts on heavy-duty vehicles.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to new team members.
- Conduct vehicle readiness and repair inspections following company checklists.
- Maintain production reports and records while making process improvement recommendations.
- Operate hoists, lifts, winches, jacks, torches, and hand tools for dismantling and reassembly.
- Overhaul and test equipment to ensure proper function.
- Inspect parts for damage or excessive wear using measuring tools.
- Diagnose defects by operating and inspecting machines and vehicles.
- Clean parts using solvents or grease removal processes.
- Document and update installation procedures using production software and tablets.
- Ensure all work meets company and manufacturer standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience & Education:
- Experience in repair, adjustment, and maintenance of self-propelled vehicles and mobile equipment (except aircraft).
- Demonstrated ability to perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance using common tools and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of mechanics, as well as hand, battery, and air-operated tools.
- Military vehicle maintenance experience is a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, stand, walk, pivot, push, and pull for extended periods (5+ hours per day).
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
